Our aim is to enrich the beer culture rather than repeating what other brewers are already doing. We take a lot of inspiration from historical brewing documents and half-forgotten traditions but we also like to make way forward by forging together elements from different beer cultures as well as through pure experimentation.
Lipreader is brewed every year for the winter season. Loads of crystal malt and a dash of Swedish alder-smoked malt make the backbone around which the recipe changes every year.
This year’s edition is brewed with fruity hop varieties and a measure of roasted malt creating a dark and distinctly fruity beer with notes of citrus, cherries and currants against a backdrop of nutty malt, along with that woody smokiness that is the hallmark of this beer.

Another extinct beer style resurrected, this time in collaboration with Brass Castle Brewery from the UK. Brewed to an original recipe from Rose’s Brewery of Malton, North Yorkshire, dated 19th of October 1895, this is in a style known as AK; essentially a session pale ale in modern vocabulary. A pale and hoppy everyday quaffer.

It would eventually transform into the significantly different mild ale we know today, but is long extinct in its original form – until now. Together with beer historian Ron Pattinson we have, with close attention to detail, recreated Whitbread’s standard ale anno 1865; a typical 19th century London mild. Kind of beer. To celebrate the first five years of tears we have revisited the very first beer we brought to the public back in 2011. A pale ale fermented at elevated temperatures bringing about spicy notes resembling Belgian-style brewing, that together with British malt and Anglo-American hopping makes for …something different.

Smoke & Mirrors presents an outspokenly fruity aroma backed by a gentle smokiness and a very dry, slightly bitter finish.

Brewed in the old tradition of March keeping beers, very strong beers meant for aging, this beer is intensely hopped during 3,5 hours of boiling in our direct-fired copper, fermented in open square to reach beyond 10% ABV and finally matured for more than six months before release. This Burton-style barley wine is a very characterful, rich and complex beer where the malty, hoppy and estery elements are elevated to the max. Best savoured on gloomy evenings by the candle light. Warning: This beer may be harmful to IPA drinkers.
